That equalizer is patience.Patience both plays and pays out equally for everyone. When it comes to investing, exhibiting restraint yields the same return, regardless of your IQ, status, safety net, social circle, or starting position. In 2021, if you held SPY, you were up ≈ 26.89%. If you held Bitcoin, you were up ≈ 47.35%. If you held Ethereum, you were up 394%. If you held real estate you were likely up. Art? Up. Even new and used cars went up (by a lot). Gold underperformed, but given enough time will certainly continue to rise.Quality investments go up and to the right on a long time horizon. Always.Having patience requires no discernible skill. You don’t need to analyze charts, read white papers, or get a real estate license. You just have to buy assets and let time do the rest.Setting aside money that you can afford not to touch for a long period of time in appreciating assets has been the way to accumulate generational wealth since the beginning of markets.If you learn just one rule about investing, let this be it! Time is your best friend.
