Can this sector still be the wild west when major institutions have been involved for years? At what point will we be considered "civilized?" The Wild West analogy is dated and inaccurate, The present reality is that the crypto space is orderly, harmonious, and cooperative, built around code and community consensus. And it is our government, as Peirce describes, that is acting as the “gunslinger,” ready for a showdown at every opportunity. The proof is everywhere.Commissioner Peirce raised a number of concerns in the form of rhetorical questions, aimed directly at other regulatory figures and bodies. Is There Really Legal Clarity Around Digital Assets? Are We Enforcing Rules by Settling or Settling for Ambiguity? Are We Fighting for Investors or Fighting for Jurisdiction? Are We Protecting Investors or Denying Investors Opportunity? Are We Going to Pretend Everything is Centralized So We Can Regulate It?Are We Catching Bad Actors or Creating a Catch 22?It doesn’t take a genius to guess how Commissioner Peirce answered these questions, and she did so with a fiery passion. Commissioner Peirce is demanding answers and willing to provide insight for those that will listen. I can’t imagine her pleas will fall entirely on deaf ears, but it will take more than one person to sway Gensler and other regulatory bodies. There is certainly a path to clear and fair regulation, it is just a question of who is willing to walk it. I highly suggest you read her speech, it's damn near perfect.
