When the conference was first announced by Jack Dorsey on Twitter, Elon Musk commented on the post with his usual snark, but ended up agreeing to speak with Jack at the event. The conversation went something like this:Jack Dorsey - Posts meaningful information about his Bitcoin event called “The ₿ Word”Elon Musk - Responds, “Bicurious?”Jack Dorsey - “Bizarre! Let’s you and I have a conversation at the event. You can share all your curiosities…”Elon Musk - “For the Bitcurious? Very well then, let’s do it.” The focus of the event is, “how institutions can embrace Bitcoin” including other notable speakers, Adam Back and Lyn Alden. Elon Musk is an ideal guest due to Tesla’s involvement in the crypto space. A lot of Bitcoiners were upset that Musk was given a platform, but it may be a positive development. Many quickly forget that Musk put himself far out over his skis by becoming a trailblazer and adding Bitcoin to his company's treasury. For Bitcoin to become a global asset, it is going to have enemies, haters and critics. As proponents, we may dislike some voices that speak on the asset, but it’s still important to listen, especially when Musk speaks up. We need to learn how to deal with doubters by deploying reason, patience, and counterpoints. If Musk goes nuclear, the ball will be in our court to remain calm. If he brings up fair criticisms, we can listen and work to improve the network based on his suggestions. If he approaches with arms wide open, we should too. Bitcoin does not care about the actions and opinions of one man. It has no idea who approves of it or doesn’t, and in the end neither should we. Considering the context of this event, it is hard to imagine Elon Musk entirely going off the rails. Joking on SNL is one thing, but this time around both the speakers and attendees have one mission in mind - to advance Bitcoin. Jack takes Bitcoin extremely seriously, so it is hard to imagine he would give Musk a platform if he believes there is much risk or that Musk will not at least provide constructive criticism. Furthermore, Musk has recently spent time with Saylor, working towards Bitcoin mining energy transparency. We have to remember that with Musk’s genius, there has never been a linear way of doing things, so why would his view on Bitcoin be an exception? The event should be a really good chance to assess where Musk’s mind is with Bitcoin. It will be live streamed starting at 9 AM PDT tomorrow with no charge.
