Scott gave arguably the most inspiring speech at the Bitcoin Conference in Miami - and it was not about the asset, but rather about water. While I knew that clean water was one of the most important issues facing our planet, I had no idea that the problem was actually solvable. To give you an idea of the scale of the problem..."785 million people in the world live without clean water. That’s nearly 1 in 10 people worldwide. Or, twice the population of the United States. The majority live in isolated rural areas and spend hours every day walking to collect water for their family. Not only does walking for water keep children out of school or take up time that parents could be using to earn money, but the water often carries diseases that can make everyone sick. But access to clean water means education, income and health - especially for women and kids."While the numbers are astounding, it's even more impressive how much of a dent can be put into this problem with organizations like Charity:Water. After his speech, I donated 1 BTC to the Bitcoin Water Trust, becoming a founding member as one of the first 50 to donate 1 BTC. Tyler and Cameron Winklevoss agreed to match the first 50 BTC donated. What makes the trust unique is that the organization has committed to HODLing the donations until 2025, a year after the next halving and well into the next cycle. The idea is that BTC is very likely to grow in price, and that our donations will rise with it, making more clean water available to more people down the road. They have taken Bitcoin donations in the past - Tony Hawk has been donating BTC to the charity since 2014. The difference is that they always immediately sold to release and use the funds. If you are interested in helping, I believe this is a worthy cause. You can donate any amount, or can just help spread the word.https://www.charitywater.org/bitcoinI will be streaming live today at 2 PM EDT.
